Scholarship FAQ’s

 

What is “proof of enrollment”?

·        Proof of enrollment can be obtained from your university’s enrollment or registrar’s office.

·        If you are an incoming freshman or transfer student please submit your acceptance letter     as a substitute for your proof of enrollment.

 

What is a Letter of Recommendation (LOR)?

·        The Letter of recommendation highlights all of your leadership qualities that have been demonstrated at school or within the community.

·        LOR’s should be addressed to the “Adelante Scholarship Committee”. If LOR’s are addressed to another organization or are dated months prior to our application opening they will not be used for your scholarship application

 

Can I mail in my unofficial transcript?

·       No, we would need the official sealed transcript from your university. Please plan early to retrieve this from your university seeing that most universities have a 4-6 week delivery date.   

 

What if I am not currently working, do I still have to submit a resume?  

·        Yes, the resume should highlight activities you are involved in at school as well as in your spare time. You can find examples of student and work  resumes online (click here).

 

How should I answer the student survey?

·        Answer the questions directly after the question; do not change the format of the questions. Please click here for an example.

 

Can I mail everything separately, such as LOR’s, resume, and official transcript?

·        No, we would need everything mailed together in one packet. Items sent via email will not be considered.

 

What happens if I fall below the required GPA or below the required full-time status requirement?

·        You forfeit the second part of your scholarship.

 

Do you need to attend a particular school in order to apply for a scholarship?

·        All scholarships have their own particular requirements. Please look over each scholarship’s criteria for details. 

 

 When and how would the recipient be notified?

·        The recipient is usually notified either through mail or email. Please check the website for scholarship info and updates after the deadline date.

 

 If awarded, who gets the check?

·        The check will be sent to the recipient via mail. The check will have the recipient’s name as well as the University’s name on it.

 

Who makes the decision about who is awarded?

·        ¡Adelante! has a scholarship committee from various areas in the community that grade scholarship recipients. 

Are scholarship grants taxable?

·        No, you will not be taxed.
