Don’t ignore your education

Every college offering squash scholarship provides a guideline to coaches in which the conditions to fulfill to be an eligible candidate are written. You must maintain a good GPA as your expertise in only playing is not enough. A player with good grades and average squash ranking would be preferred over a player with poor academics and top ranking in squash. On the other hand, if you secure the required GPA and are a strong player, you can recruit. However, if you want to increase the chances of getting recruited, you shouldn’t ignore education.

Prepare for SAT/ACT

You need to start planning for getting better scores on SAT and ACT. Coaches start looking for their players earlier during the final session of the junior class to know if their players would be able to meet the eligibility criterion or not.

Attend squash camps

You are suggested to attend the squash camps of different colleges as this is when coaches assess their prospective players’ capability. If you are a part of a college’s squash camp team, you own a positive point. So, try to attend the college camps where possible. Some small colleges don’t organize camps. However, their coaches go to the centers of others.

Follow up

You will get yourself recruited for a college’s squash; that’s more like a job. So, the competition is very high. To stay ahead of the competition, you must contact the squash coaches, not daily, but you can send them emails once a month. In the emails, you can update about your achievements. Don’t write long emails as coaches don’t have enough time to read long texts. You can also build an online profile where you can update your performance.

Visit the college

Visit the college campus where you are interested in getting recruitment. It allows the player to assess whether the university best fits his dreams and allows the coach to determine the athlete’s abilities.
